METHEG-AMMAH*

Place (whose name means “Bridle of the Mother City”) conquered by David (2 Sm 8:1, nlt mg). Most likely it refers to the Philistine capital, Gath (1 Chr 18:1). The capital city was often referred to as the “mother” city, and surrounding cities as “daughters”; the “bridle” represented control or authority.
