ARD, ARDITE

One of the nine sons of Bela (Nm 26:40), Benjamin’s firstborn son (1 Chr 8:1). Ard is called Benjamin’s son in the Hebrew sense, meaning descendant (Gn 46:21). He was the founder of the Ardite family, a subclan of Benjamin’s tribe. The Ard/Addar transposition in 1 Chronicles 8:3 is probably a result of scribal error.
